FAQ’s OVERSEAS MEDICLAIM POLICY
  • What is the need for travel insurance?
    While traveling abroad, whether for business or pleasure, there is an undeniable element of medical risk involved. And given the astronomical costs of medical treatment abroad, this risk can debilitate one’s finances permantly. Trawelltag – a complete Travel Insurance Policy covers not only medical risks, but also covers you against other frequent occurrences such as loss of passport, baggage etc.
     
  • How is the premium charged?
    There are two broad categories 1) Including USA/Canada & 2) Excluding USA/Canada. The premium also depends on a) Plan selected b) Age group & c) Number of travel days.
     
  • Who can purchase Trawelltag policy?
    Anybody going abroad whether for business, pleasure or study can purchase Trawelltag policy. On the contrary this policy is compulsory for visit to any European country.
     
  • What is the age limit & for which insurance can be granted? Insurance can be granted to travelers between the ages of 6 months to 80 years subject to medical reports wherever required.
     
  • Can a person above 80 years be covered?
    The proposals of such kind have to be referred to the Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd., along with the reports & Medical Report Form & the approval shall be at the discretion of their head office. It may be accepted with some loading on the premium.
     
  • Can the policy be extended after 180 days?
    The insured has to inform us well in advance before the policy expires, through an email, so as to get the extension of the policy by the insurance company. It is at the sole discretion of the insurance company. There should be no claims during the policy period i.e. for 180 days & the email should mention this & also a declaration regarding good health.
     
  • Is there any grace period under the policy, incase if the passenger is unable to return to India within the policy period?
    Yes. Automatic extension of 7 days shall be granted in case of delay of public transport service beyond the control of passenger & production approved thereof.
     
  • What is the Annual Plan?
    It is also known as Corporate Frequent Flyer Plan. The Annual plan is for a person who travels abroad frequently. It covers the traveler for the full year, subject to each trip should not exceed 60 days & all the trips put together in a year should not exceed 180 days i.e. 6 months. The advantage of this plan is that the person need not obtain policies on every visit. Also this plan proves to be a cheaper than taking separate policies. The maximum age limit is 60 years.
     
  • What are the deductibles?
    The deductible is the amount which has to be borne by the insured/passenger. It is meant to avoid small claims. It is a universal practice and all the companies follow this. E.g. In case of Medical Expenses – Deductible is $100, therefore if the claim is for $200 the insured gets $100 & if the claim is for $75 then no claim is payable.
     
  • Are pre-existing disease covered?
    No. The policy covers diseases/accident which occurs during the policy period. Any pre existing diseases not covered i.e. diabetics, heart disease, hyper tension & other childhood diseases.
     
  • Do you require any Medical Reports?
    Latest I) ECG report ii) Fasting blood sugar report iii) Urine strip test IV) Medical Request Form, filled & signed by M.D. doctor. All the above reports along with the form duly completed by M.D. doctor is required for person above 60 years.
    However if the travel / tour is for less than 60 days no reports are required up to the age of 70 years. For 70 years & above these reports are required irrespective of number of days of travel.
     
  • What is Evacuation?
    Expenses for physician ordered emergency medical evacuation, including medically appropriate transportation and necessary medical care enroute, to the nearest suitable hospital when the insured person is critically ill or injured and no suitable local care is available, subject to the prior approval of the Medical Advisors. In extreme emergency in remote areas where Coris International Ltd. can not be contacted, the medical evacuation must be reported to the first available physician and the nearest Indian Consulate.
    Expenses for medical evacuation including transportation and medical care enroute to a hospital in the Republic of India or the Insured Person’s normal place of residence in the Republic of India when deemed medically advisable by the Medical Advisors and the attending physician.
     
  • What is Repatriation?
    If the insured person dies outside the Republic of India, the expenses for preparing the air transportation of the remains for repatriation to the Republic of India or up to an equivalent amount for a local burial or cremation in the country where the death occurred. All expenses must be approved by Coris International Ltd. before the remains are prepared for transportation to the Republic of India or for local burial or cremation.
     
  • What is the personal liability?
    This Insurance will pay up to the limit of cover shown in the schedule if the Insured Person in his or her private capacity becomes legally liable to pay for accidental bodily injury to third parties for accidental damage to Third Party Properties, arising from an incident during the covered trip.
     
  • What is trip cancellation?
    It compensates for loss of personal accommodation or travel charges paid or contracted to be paid by the insured, which are not recoverable from any other source. Following are the necessary & unavoidable:
    I) Cancellation before trip because of:
    (a) Insured’s death, serious injury or sudden Sickness or requiring hospitalization for more than 24 hrs.
    (b) Serious injury/death sudden sickness of insured’s Spouse or parent or child requiring hospitalization for more than 24 hrs. Compulsory quarantine or prevention of travel by Government.

    II) Curtailment (the cutting short by early return to India) of the trip because of:
    (a) Death, serious injury or sudden sickness of your Spouse or child residing with you in India.
    (b) The hijack of an aircraft in which you are traveling As a fare-paying passenger.
     
  • What is missed connection?
    In case of the Insured Person missing a connecting flight or train or ship/cruise (due to cancellation of service or departure, delayed departure, change of route, non-landing/docking, offloading of passengers by airline, train, ship or cruise due to any reason including overbooking) the following shall be reimbursed to the extent of 90%.
    Expenses relating to transportation of the client to the intended destination by alternative means of transportation as may be absolutely necessary including other airline, train or surface transportation including necessary & reasonable cost of up gradation to a superior class of travel, expenses relating to accommodation food & communication when the clients are required to be so accommodated including cost of up gradation in case some of the services are provided by concerned supplier, loss of sightseeing entertainment programmes, events, sports, games, assignments.
     
  • What is bounced hotel booking?
    In case of the Insured Person not getting hotel services booked on confirmed basis with the suppliers, the Insured would be reimbursed 90% of the cost of expenses relating to transportation to the alternative hotel, cost of up gradation to a superior class of hotel if required.
     
  • Can a person get cashless treatment abroad?
    Yes. The person can get a cashless treatment abroad through ‘Coris International Ltd.’ who are claim settling agent of Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd. having head office in France & other offices in USA & UK with facilities of toll free numbers. All the addresses & numbers are printed on the back cover of the policy.
     
  • What if the person cannot contact ‘Coris International Ltd.’? Or what about other claims such as loss/delay of baggage?
    For all major medical hospitalization claims contacting ‘Coris International Ltd.’ is compulsory. For minor claims including that of loss/delay of baggage & other claims the insured can come back to India & lodge a claim with Heritage Health Services Pvt. Ltd. at Mumbai whose address & telephone numbers are also given at back cover of the policy.
     
  • Can we issue restricted policy? And what are the coverages?
    Yes we can issue policy for the person above 70 yrs without taking reports by restricting medical coverages up to 10,000 USD and all the other coverages will be the same of p
     
  • Can Policy get cancelled?
    Yes , Policy can get cancelled only when passenger has not traveled & he / she is providing copy of passport with visa pages for proof that passenger has not traveled.
    Passenger can get refund after deducting 300/- (Cancellation charges).
     
  • Can CFT plan given to person above 60 after taking medical reports.
    Ans: Yes, We can issue policy above 60 yrs after taking medical reports.
